The Pennsylvania College of Technology (often called Penn College) is located in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, as a special-mission affiliate of Penn State University. Its roots go back to 1914, when Williamsport High School began offering adult industrial arts education. In 1941, this vocational-training effort was formally chartered as Williamsport Technical Institute, growing especially during World War II to provide defense workforce training and retraining for veterans. In 1965 it became Williamsport Area Community College when broader postsecondary credentials and community college sponsorship were added. Finally, in 1989, the institution gained its current name and status with its affiliation with Pennsylvania State University. The college is situated in Williamsport, in central Pennsylvania, on a main campus that includes historic buildings like the Klump Academic Center (originally built in 1914 as Williamsport High School) as well as many modern instructional centers. Penn College also operates several satellite campuses/learning centers, including the Kathryn Wentzel Lumley Aviation Center at the Williamsport Regional Airport in Montoursville.
